Sometime I just write what I feel

I'm sitting here feeling like crap. There is some part of me that feels like I should not vent this stuff on my web page. But on the other hand this is my web page. It's for my use and my benefit. So fair warning. I'm feeling kind of like a good whine today and it's more for my benefit then yours.

I'm more tired then anybody's been gone before.

I know that is bad English but it dose tell how I'm feeling. Seem I have had to suffer more crap then usual in the writing of this page. I got a letter Thanksgiving day that was 16 pages long. The upshot of this letter was "If women would put out more then guys would not want nude Rynn skins". But for the largest part, this letter was like being raped in text form. It went from mildly insane to dangerously insane. The writer should be commended for being so patently offensive and being unaware he was being so. I can honestly say I have never felt more beaten up after reading a letter. I'm sure this guy is the envy of every cretin that has tried to offend me.

Also some butt nugget is putting my e-mail address on every mailing list he or she can find. This is a major annoyance. If somebody wanted to be a pain in my butt they sure found a good way to do it. But even the actual letters I do get at this point are for the most part abusive.

I have one guy trying to pick a fight with me in my e-mail. I think he want's me to do a green letter job on him. But I can tell he's just looking for some attention and there is nothing but knee jerk commentary in his so called letters. This guy likes to stir up crap on message boards but at this time (so I'm told by him) he's banned from GSI's message boards. Must be hard to be a public nuisance with out a place to act like an ass. Regardless of what you think of my writing I have the common decency to keep it on this web page. You don't like it, don't read it. That simple. I wonder if people have any idea how much stuff I don't read. He's a hint. If you ever get a reply from me that is like "Yeah whatever, have a nice life" that pretty much indicates I did not read past your first line of vulgarity/stupidity.

I also feel a bit like a cop today. Cops pretty much hate answering domestic calls. Most the time they have to tackle Hubby/boyfriend who's got a knife to some women's throat. They take him down to the station, and the women that a few minutes ago was fearing for her life, is now saying stuff like " He didn't mean it.... It was just a misunderstanding" and the ever popular " He's sorry, he won't do it again". Cop hate this because psycho boy does not get charged with anything and they know they will be going back to that address again.

I feel this way because back when a women (that will remain nameless at this point) was being publicly abuse by a guy (that will also remain nameless at this point). She claimed she had no friends and her whole gaming community had turned it's back on her. Well I got a letter today from her explaining how she and psycho boy were best of friends now and I should not bring up the past unpleasantness. Well here's a thought. How bout the next time you guys have a little lovers tiff you keep it off the public forums. If you don't want people talking about your dirty laundry you should not hang it out for everybody to see. Frankly I think you traded in one abusive relationship for another. Judging by how nameless guy deports himself in public I would hate to think what he's like behind closed doors.

More over, I'm coming to grips with the utter futility of trying to make things better.

I think most people would like things to change for the better. But since it not easy or fun they are not willing to do what it takes to change things. Let me tell you how things are and why they are going to stay that way.

Games will continue to be shipped with known Issues

That is the old bug/patch dichotomy. I know people claim to hate patches but few are willing to wait for a game to be really finished. Remember when Drakan was 3 months late? I don't know what they did, but it was not fix bugs. The game was, and is still rife with them. Even after 2 patches. For some reason, too much stock is still put in the phrase "a patch will be coming soon". Many patches do nothing. Outside of the Rogue Spear patch I can't think of any other patch that did anything noticeable.

If we really wanted to stop the patch-o-rama we would have to stop buying unfinished games. But I don't think we can wait a month, or months to not buy that pretty box on the shelf. We are too forgiving, too trusting, and too greedy to let the hot new game wait.

People want to be hyped

The truth is way over rated. People would rather be lied to if it's a lie they want to hear. Example....
MMR technology. This is the cool little gimmick in Messiah that supposedly lets the engine add and subtract polygons from a model so it runs at optimal speed on all machines. They posted some models in their print adds that look stunning. Have you tried the demo? No stunning models. Frankly the models from Quake 2 look a lot better then the models in Messiah. And if the new MMR technology optimizes the game play to the computer. I have to conclude since it runs like a slide show on my system that is how it's suppose to run. It's optimized remember?

Quake 3 arena.... The ULTIMATE death match. Frankly I'm hard pressed to find anything ground breaking about this game. It's so much like Quake 2 that is almost scary. Some things look different. And there are curved surfaces. But the actual game play is extremely Quake 2ish.
It sickens me to say this but this game is going to sell HUGE. Not because it's a great game. Just because people love the hype. Quake 3 arena is 30% Q2 and 70% hype. The fact that Unreal tournament is a vastly superior game will not stem the tide of the Id hype monster.

The reason people will always be hyped is because of their overwhelming fear if negativity. Any positive lie is better then and unpleasant truth. Gamers are in to fantasy. Fantasy dose not like the intrusion of fact getting in the way of a good day dream. Since the marking of games is marketed to the dreamer in all of us, we welcome the exaggerated tales of bigger better games/tech/graphics. Anybody pointing out the emperor has no clothes is pilloried and dealt with as an infidel. Sometime I wonder if part of the enjoyment some people get from games, is being ripped off and complaining about it. To me games cost too much to be taken as a fantasy venture. I'm not rich by a long shot and my Mommy does not buy me games. The money come right out of my pocket. Not only is my money hard won, but to buy games sometime some shuffling of bills must occur. When I buy a dog meat game like Drakan I'm not a happy camper.

Paint some flames on the side of your computer it's a hot rod baby

You know I have come to a profound realization. The reason minimum requirements keep going up is not because the games are all that much better. It's because there is a hot rod attitude about computers at the hard core gamer level. We want to have the biggest stick out there. No wonder games keep playing up to the hod rod mentality. Just think for a moment. What about Q3 is all that much different from Q2? Not very much when you consider the huge jump in resource you took. Q2 runs on 16 megs or ram. Don't even try to run Q3 with out 64 megs. Is the game play 4 times better? are the graphics 4 times better? So why the steep requirements? So you feel justified in having a bigger badder computer. Here is a question, How much better does any game run on a P III 500 compared to an athelon 700? That is 200 Mghz faster and about 400$ more not counting the new mother board. Do you think you could really tell the difference? Not really. But in 2 years you wont be able to play the latest first person shooter on a P III 500. And the latest first person shooter will still be pretty much like Quake 2.

People don't want this to change. It's a matter of pride. My video card spews out more texles, my Bus speed is faster. I have a X125 speed cd rom. Shut the hell up.

The gaming world will not be Female friendly anytime in the foreseeable future.

It's just not going that way at all. I have been watching things for the last 3 years. things are not getting better they are getting worst. I remember the green ribbon campaign. I simple movement designed that people might practice a bit of decency when they used their freedom of speech. It was designed so women would not have to suffer the many indignities that they suffered from the pre pubescent geek population. It was a good thing. But it's over with now.

Once apon a time men would curtail their rough speech when a women was present. The reason behind this was two fold. Respect, and the fact they realized such curt behavior reflected poorly on themselves, and their parents. Now women are verbally assaulted constantly. They are called names and the profanity spews forth with little regard to how it makes the speaker look. Will this get better? No, not for a very long time. It's not the women's attitude that has to change it's the men's. And at this point in time, Men want women out. That is the only thing that can explain their behavior. They objectify women wholesale and then act like it's free speech they are practicing. Women are suppose to laugh it off. take it like a good sport. This whole setup really sucks and I hate it with all my being. Women are not asking for anything then a small measure of common decency and that is too much for the Geeks to allow.

If you have been following this pages since it's inception I apologize to you. Trying to make things better is a waste of time because for the most part people are quite content to wallow in the mire.

I feel I should point out, I have always done what I said I would do. When I said I would not pimp the page I did not. When I said I would not post on a message board I did not. The reason I bring this up is because I started writing a web page on December 23 of last year. This December will mark my one year anniversary of being Sparrowslain. As of this December 23 Sparrowslain will no longer be. This page will not longer be updated. I'm sure for some this is an announcement a kin to Christmas coming two days early. For me it's the laying down of a labor of love. To my readers I thank you all for indulging my many moods. For coming to read what I have to say. You are the very best thing about this whole grim experience. As for my few but vocal critics. Your more the welcome to wallow in the mess you have made. I hope you enjoy it as much as you pretend to.

People are stupid

I have known this for a while. If you are one of these stupid people rest assure I know you're out there. You don't have to write me a letter to prove you exist. Nuff said.

Nothing is going on

Nothing new is out. All the game companies are taking time off for Thanksgiving. No new compelling demos or anything. So rather then prattle on, I'll just let this be today's page. I know it's not much but I don't feel like pulling content out of my butt today. I'll keep yesterday's page in front so you have something cool to look at. I think yesterdays page was pretty good. Today's page sucks and I know it. Sorry. I'm only human and sometime I write a bad, boring page.

Man what a crappy day

My Thanksgiving was a real pain in the buttox. Seem lots of people want to write in and tell me what to get upset about. Please feel free to tell me what you think, but don't tell me what to think. And please never write me and tell me what attitudes I need to embrace to be happy. Nobody reading this page knows me well enough to make such determinations. All I talk about here is games. This is my personal page and this is where I talk about games.... That is all. Anybody attempting to build a psychological profile based on this page is on a fools errand. Sparrowslain is just my writing voice. The opinions are real, but the personality is much like any public persona.

The great death match show down!!!

Hey it's a slow news day so I'm going to prove my point about something. Unreal tournament owns the crown to the best death match game coming out.... well it's already out so hop on your bicycle and get yourself a copy.

I feel I should point something out here. I have never said that Quake 3 totally sucks. I have said it's boring and I'm not very impressed with it. It could be the fact that it's pretty much Quake 2 with curved surfaces and I have played my fair share of Quake 2. But I have played a good deal of the Quake 3 arena demo test. The main reason is because I don't have Quake 2 on my system at the moment. That has nothing to do with the quality of Q2, I just don't have the hard dive space to keep it any longer.

Lets compare and contrast

This is the big picture section. I know it's going to take a while to load, but everybody love pictures, right?

First up. The default ranged weapon.

Quake 3... the machine like gun

I have heard some critics say this is too powerful a default weapon. But I don't agree. You can get a kill with it but it's not easy. Some what like a boom stick frag from Quake. I don't love this weapon but I can use it to score with. I think Id believes the default weapon should be just about useless. In a way they are right. But I prefer the way UT handled it better.

Unreal tournaments.... The pistol

Now to address the default ranged weapon in UT you have to understand a major difference in game play. In UT where you shoot someone is as important if not more important they just shooting them. The pistol to the body with armor is all most useless. But positional damage is in effect. When you shoot somebody in the head with a pistol, a much harder shot, you do more damage and can collect quite a few kills. It's not the weapon it's what you do with it. I have taken out players toting the rocket launcher with a single pistol. A few shots to the noggin kind of does the trick.

Notice I said single pistol, you can grab a second pistol and go WOO style on them. You also have a secondary fire mode that let you spray more lead with less accuracy. I don't use that much. But it is fun to some times just let em rip.

If you look over my stats you'll see number 3 out of all kills is with the double enforcer (pistol). Good default weapon skippy.

Quake 3..... The Rocket launcher

If there is one law of death match it's "GET THE ROCKET LAUNCHER!!!!!". It would not be a death match with out one. Quake 3 continues the great tradition. But not really any thing new. That is kind of the problem with Q3. Nothing is new and in some cases it's not as good as it use to be. The latest version of the rocket launcher is as slow as the Q2 version, But gone are the cute little telephone poles of death. Now you get some shiny ball to show you were the rocket is. The RL model looks kind of blah. kind of funny when you think it's the weapon most people lust for. I should point out the weapon balance is pretty good and you don't NEED the rocket launcher. But if you have it life is much simpler.

Unreal Tournament.... The Rocket launcher

This is much more then a rocked launcher. This is like a swiss army knife of death. You can use it just like the old Quake version. But you can also hold down the fire button and load a whole salvo of rockets. Fire six rockets at someone and they are going to have some problems. If you linger on a target for a moment you'll hear a lock tone and the sight will go red. This means your missile is in homing mode. This is not a sure fire kill but it's pretty handy. It takes a bit of time but it's just neato. Also there is secondary fire mode. The lobs rockets out and they act much like grenades. You can hold the secondary fire button down and lobs up to six little pills of death in to a well trafficked area and just sit back and watch the frags roll in. So let's recap, It's a standard rocket launcher, it fires salvos of rockets, it fires homing missile, it lobs rockets like grenades in single or multiple groups. What can I say it's the perfect gift for the person that kills everything. Not only is it more lethal then any Quake incarnation of the RL it looks really cool.

Quake 3..... The bug zapper

Remember the lightening gun from Quake? Grab it get close and your a bad mofo. Well it's back in all it's updated glory. It's a bit tamer then it use to be. I remember carving quite a swath with the original version. But this is kind of tepid.

Unreal tournament.... The green bug zapper

I remember my second game online with UT. Some guy was schooling us all on the secondary fire mode of the Plasma gun. He scored big with it. I know Q3 has a plasma gun but it's just not the same thing. The PG in UT just lays down massive smack dab. Even at long range the big green bug zapper will put the hurt on anyone. You still need to aim but it's a cool weapon. If anything UT went in a very different direction. In Q3 none of the weapons is super deadly. They did this in the name of weapons balance. On the other hand in UT all the weapons used properly will have a devastating effect. The key is to use them properly. Just randomly hosing down and area with the big green will not get you as many frags as some well placed enforcer shots. In primary fire mode the plasma gun is more like a less lethal hyper blaster from Q2.

Quake 3..... Give me the numbers

There is a reward system in Q3. You get cute little graphics for doing little tricks. Road kill likes this a lot. Personally I kind of like it. But once again I feel that UT has this covered far better.

Unreal tournament..... Give me the numbers

This really gives you all the numbers. If you have ever played around with gibstats you have a good idea of the read out you get. It's far superior to Q3's little graphics. I know I have over 1k frags in Q3. How many more I'm not sure. But in UT I have a grand total of 9,685 frags. That appeals to me. I'm in to numbers.

Stuff I don't have pictures of

The Bot AI

In Quake 3 I find the bots act very much like bots. They do some stuff that is very artificial. They tend to check there back far more then a human player would with no reason to do so. Face it I look behind me when I hear something or have a reason to look behind me. That is how people work. If you watch a Q3 bot it moves very unnaturally. It's spazy and just bot like. The evasion routines never really improve much. As levels go up they become better shots that is all.

You can beat a top level UT bot. They are just very, very, very hard to kill. They become more aware of their situation (much like a more experienced player would) and manage to evade fire in a way a human opponent would. Even at the top level you never feel like your playing a bot with an unfair advantage. You feel like your playing a very good human player.

The interface

The interface in Q3 is like a really bad web page. Took me a while to figure out just how to do what I wanted to do. Many of the things in the interface are not adjustable. I'm sure in the unrestricted game you'll be able to tinker with the setting in the console. But as useful as that is, it's not as smooth and simple as UT's interface.

I honestly think you could play UT for months with out dealing with the console commands. The ones I have used had nothing to do with the game play. But it seems ever game play option is available right in the nifty little GUI. How fast do you want the game play? just move the slider. What Type of game play do you want? Just click the drop down menu. What bots do you want on your team? It's right in the GUI. what skin on what bot and all the stuff you need to type in to the console is right there. If it's about game play it's on the GUI. I'm not afraid of console commands. I have made many scripts for Q2 and H2. I know my way around. But as far as setting up a game the interface just smokes.

Mutators rock

Mods are cool. But mutators are the wave of the future if you ask me. They are tiny (2k or so) and you just pick them from a list in the GUI. So far there have been a bunch of way cool mutators. They also have kept the Demo fresh and vibrant. Unlike mods you can mix and match mutators. You can have Fat boy soul harvest and Instagib more gore. It's fun easy and a small down load.

The only thing Quake 3 really has going for it

Curved surfaces. Yes Q3 looks pretty and it's technologically hip. But you don't play any of that stuff. The game is the thing. I really think Q3 is Id's attempt to get John Carmack's new game engine out the door with out wrapping a game around it. It's not a bad game, but it is a game I have played before. And as much a step forward as it might be technologically speaking it does bog down on my system. Unreal tournament does not. That advances are not significant enough to require the resources to run a game that for all intents and purposes, is just a slightly prettier Quake 2.

The upshot is

Unreal tournament rule, Q3 drools. Well not so much drools, but it's gotta be embarrassing to be so outclassed. Q3 is OK. But Unreal tournament is the future of the game. Anybody clinging on to the claim that Q3 is superior is just displaying there inability to accept change. While UT may not be cutting edge Tech wise, it is game play wise. That advances in game play are vast. Far more compelling then the technical advances of the Q3 engine. To me it's as simple as just playing the games. Unreal tournament blew my socks off, Quake 3 gave me the feeling of "Yeah, this is Quake all right". Not to say I did not love Quake and Quake 2 in it's day. But after you play a game for 3 years you get a tiny bit bored with it. Unreal tournament take a concept I understand and makes it fresh and compelling again. That is fun. So......

The king is dead, Long live Unreal tournament.

Feelings....whoooa, whoooa, whoooa feelings

Most the time when I write this page I have many thought rolling around in my head. Today such is not the case. I find myself driven by emotions. That is not to say these feeling can not be expressed as words. They can be. But they have more weight at an emotional level then an intellectual one.

Rynn get naked

Yeah you knew it had to happen. Chalk up another one for the perverts. Maybe when I talk about this I'm making it too complex. consider this. Your fun and freedom of speech to extent as far as it dose not hurt and oppress others. This is so simple I don't understand why the knuckle draggers can't figure it out.

At this point Lowlife is posting Nude pictures of a polygonal game model and touting his free speech. Blue ribbon and all. While he's doing all the NOBEL FREE SPEECH crap he's also showing his utter contempt for all women kind.

The concept of free speech is a good thing. I was instituted in this country to make sure if things ever got crazy the voice of reason could point it out with out going to jail. A person could address the wrongs of society , and try and effect a change. It was never intended to be used to promote pornography.

For those of you saying I confused nudity with pornography let me tell you the legal definition of pornography. "Pornography is that which appeals to puriant interest". That means if you looking at something for a cheap thrill it's porno according to the letter of the law. This is not art. This is not David, or the Birth of Venus. This is a game model created to appeal to little perverts, and made porno with the addition of a nude skin.

I'm tired of nude Rynn, nude Keria, nude Laura. I'm tired of "You know you're going to score" and Earl's secret of success. I'm tired of seeing real flesh and blood women leaving computers games because they can't take the crap anymore.

Anybody remember the story about Ashska and Ablation? Seem Ablation tried some crap to get Ashska to stay with him. When she found out she packed her bags and went elsewhere. The Ablation started abusing her on a message board. It was so bad Ashska asked a person with the authority to remove the abusive thread to do so. Once again the losers started to scream about how there freedom of speech was being tampered with. They felt the founding fathers has intended that provision to they could abuse a women with it. The bottom line is Ashska felt as though she had no friends left in the community she so loved. She left heart broken. Why? Because some abusive guy wanted to pay the B*tch back for dumping his lewzer ass.

Ashska is good people. When my heart was broken she was there for me. She gave me support. I tried to be there for her but my attempts to fix things were too little too late. Ablation and his cronies.... why do sexless lewzers always have cronies? Well anyway, they started a web page trying to offend me. While it was offensive in a broad vulgar way. I simply considered the source.

I hate change

But it seem that fate is conspiring to drag me into and upgrade. 2 Years back when I had my computer built, it was cutting edge. I never had to look at minimum requirements. Now if I squeak under the door most games run like crap. To say they run is not accurate they kind of crawl. This is not going to be a simple upgrade because my mother board is maxed out a 200 Mghz. I need to take a huge plunge that at this time I can simply not afford. I'm kind of depressed about this. If I felt games where all that much better maybe it would not be a big deal. But really we are not getting our resources worth here.

If there is a moral to today's page it's......

People have feelings. Even jaded web page people. I know it's a day for giving thanks. But right now I'm not feeling very thankful. It's and emotional thing. I am grateful my family and friends. I'm grateful for the provisions God has made for my life. But I'm not happy at the moment. I know this will pass in time. But right now this is how I feel.

It's Jerry Springer time again

Some people should be eviscerated. It should be a slow and painful evisceration too. But since the world is not fair I have to take my pound of flesh where I can. Now I feel I should point out I'm not in anyway trying to influence the content of someone's web page. But if someone is a jerk I have a God given right as an American citizen to point it out in print.

I got this letter today. When I read it I was pretty upset. Lucky for you, I spent some cooling down time before I started writing this or I would have been very unpleasant. But I'll print the letter and add my comments to it, and then give you a wrap up when it's done. The point is, THIS CRAP HAS TO STOP!!! It's not cute, and it's not as harmless as some knuckle dragger would have you believe.

Anyway, let me tell you about the guy that sent me this letter. He writes a Web page called "The Sine wave" and his nick is Zeoc. He's one of the nicest guys I know on the net. We even have a major point of disagreement, but I still count him among my friends. That disagreement is about the game Drakan. He's still somewhat of a fan (although I think he's about to give it up and I don't blame him after this letter) and I'm very disappointed with it. But even still, I find him a fine man that has a deep regard for everybody's dignity. So anyway, I get an e-mail with the subject line "I gotta find a new game" and it says the following

Dear Sparrowslain

Remember when you told me "When publishers try and squeak out another Laura
they are saying 'our market is made up of sexless losers. Lets give them what
they want.'"? Well, I got something from not a publisher, but a webmaster for a
fan site, that says EXACTLY that!

I didn't want the Drakan community to be invaded by even more sex-starved
geeks. I thought Lowlight had a lapse in judgment or something and I thought I
would tell him, as politely as I felt was needed, to take that rumor off of
there. So I sent him this email:

Lowlight-

Please don't put stuff like "Nude Rynn" on your site. The last thing Drakan
needs is to fall into the Tomb Raider trap of being considered a T&A game. It's
bad enough that Rynn is advertised as "the #1 babe in computer gaming". I'm
sure someone has made a nude Rynn texture, because I know how it could be done
with the editor, but do you have to announce it on the top of your page?

For everyone's sake, remove that topic from the news page immediately. I'm
sure many of the forum members (excluding Overlord, of course) would agree that
it is best not to advertise things like that. You'd only be attracting a bunch
of desperate freaks who get off on polygons, and who wants that?

I know Drakan news has been slow lately, but please don't resort to nude
skin reports!

Drakan has been (and will continue to be) looked at by the general public as a
great game with a hot babe in it.

No. most of the world thinks Hot babes are made of flesh and blood. Only people with no social graces and a rich fantasy life get Hot for polygons. While there maybe lots of them, they do not make up the general public by a long shot.

Only the hardest core Drakan fans ignore that fact.

looking for "rynn pics" or "rynn model" or "nude rynn" It is a fact that,
although you, me, or the hardcore Drakan community may not like, people WANT
Rynn. My site is dedicated to bringing the people what they want. That means
the latest player created mods for you and the rest of the Drakan community.
That also means high res shots of the Rynn model, and other things that MANY
people want.

I would venture to guess most of your hits are generated by the message board. It's a cheap trick lewzer pages use to get a lot of hits. People check back several times a day to see what is there. It makes you look like a publishing hot shot when your really just the back yard fence. I got news for you skippy, you piss off the message board people and your readership is going to die. Little kids? Do you know it's a crime to promote pornography to minors? A nude game skin is no different from a nude comic. If you post one on the net is has to be under a disclaimer. People should be able to look at a game related sight with out pornography. Frankly I think that is what most people really want.

No.... it's the marketing of babes. Over half the worlds population is female. It's a male dominated marketing scheme that keeps babes in the public eye. Now this little bit is more interesting it might seem at first. The reason he posted this rumor is to attract people using the search criteria "Nude + Rynn". This is Lowlife trolling for perverts. What depth some people will stoop for to get hits. This page is pimp free. I don't promote it in any way and it still has readers. They are by the way the best readership in all of the web in my opinion.

I am hearing rumors of a nude Rynn texture going around. I can't offer much
more info than that, but I promise I will get on top of it, and as soon as I do,
I'll have it here for your downloading pleasure. This should be fun :)

Now there is a lot to be said about this little collection of words. Probably the most telling word of them all is, "Rumors". This is suppose to be a news page. But he's stooped to posting rumors. Sad commentary about his journalistic integrity. Frankly he has none. And what kind of writing style accepts the phrase "going around" as a source? I have always been really unimpressed with the copy and paste type of journalism that passes for a news page in the gaming community. It requires no talent at all and most of the guys that do it, don't do it very well. But as bad as most of them are, most would not stoop this low. Not only is he a talent less hack. But he seems to enjoy flaunting his perversions. He's so hot for this nude skin he's going to enjoy downloading it..... that is sick. This should be fun????? Man you really are a creepy dude Lowlife. It's not wonder girls don't talk to you.

Lowlife claims that people in general see Drakan as a "Babe game". I don't agree. I have never seen it that way. The reason Lowlife is confused is because that is how the publisher thought it was best to market the game. They were wrong. The people that have an abiding affection for the game are not about "Babes", they are about a game that had a kind of magic. Drakan did have tons of promise. But that promise never came to pass. Somewhere it went from a magical game to a stupid Babe game. It was poorly designed, and poorly executed. The Magic was lost.

Another place that the publishers miss out was the fact that this game could have been huge with women gamers. It had a female protagonist, a dragon, adventure, and great aesthetics. But they instead chose to negate that market. When they promoted the game as "Check out the hottest babe in computer games" they sent a clear message to the female market. "THIS GAME IS FOR SEXLESS GEEKS JUST LIKE TOMB RAIDER...... ALL REAL WOMEN STAY AWAY!!!!" And stay away in droves they did.

Now the only hope for Lowlifes publishing empire is to play up Rynn as some sex toy for the Lewzer community. That is the last hope for his sad little ego..

I really think the time has come to stand up for something. If you read Lowlifes web page I recommend you send him a letter informing him your no longer going to patronize his site. Then go elsewhere for you gaming news needs. Also I recommend that you no longer spend your money at EB world. The time has come to say enough is enough. Let these people know this is not acceptable. They will have their supporters to be sure. But I'm confident that the majority of people out there have a bit better understanding of right and wrong. Looking the other way is not helping. Being "Positive" is not helping. It's time to make a stand and I can not do it alone.

Even if no women played games it would still be right to leave them with their dignity intact. It's time to stop the abuse. It's time to do the right thing. It's time to say.....
